Lamprey Day in Salacgrīva and Surroundings

On October 12, Salacgrīva and Svētciems will traditionally celebrate Lamprey Day – a day when lamprey fishermen invite everyone to explore the fishing craft and enjoy delicious lamprey dishes. The fishermen will share stories about lamprey fishing and life on the fish weir, as well as reveal how the fishing weir is built from spruce logs that have been seasoned for years.

On this beautiful autumn Saturday, visitors will be treated to delicious lamprey soup, charcoal-grilled lamprey, and other delicacies featuring lamprey as the main ingredient. In addition to learning about lamprey fishing, there will be various creative and entertaining activities for both children and adults, including the exciting Radio-Controlled Model Rally. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet entrepreneurs from Limbaži Municipality at the “Entrepreneurs’ Quarter 2024” forum and shop for local products and goods at the Salacgrīva market. For sports enthusiasts, the traditional “Lamprey Cross” race will take place, while salmon lovers can meet representatives of the “Fishing Club Salackrasti” association, explore the value of the Salaca River, visit the Salmon Weir, and enjoy salmon soup as part of the Lamprey Day festivities.
