The Bārda Family Poets Museum "Rumbiņi"

+2
The Bārda Family Memorial Museum "Rumbiņi" preserves the memory of three significant figures in Latvian culture – the poet Fricis Bārda, Paulīna Bārda, and Antons Bārda.
The preserved 19th-20th century peasant homestead buildings and household items hold evidence of the life of the inhabitants of this homestead. Together with the beautiful surrounding nature – forests, hills, and birch groves – they provide an insight into the environment where the poets lived and drew inspiration for their creativity.
"Rumbiņi" is a place to visit for both literature and history enthusiasts, as well as those seeking positive emotions while being in nature.

The farmstead "Rumbiņi" was purchased in 1865 by Jānis Bārda – the father of poets Fricis and Antons Bārda. In a short time, the new owner built new structures in place of the dilapidated ones – a log house, granaries, barns, a horse stable, a threshing barn, a hayloft, and a sauna. Through hard work over ten years, "Rumbiņi" became a thriving farm with large, well-maintained fields and a bountiful orchard.

Until 1981, the house was inhabited, but after the death of poet Antons Bārda, it gradually fell into disrepair.

In 1989, along with the first winds of freedom, a building inspection was conducted, and restoration work began. In 1993, the Bārda family memorial museum was opened.

In 1915, poet Fricis Bārda built his house, "Dārziņi," on his father’s land. It was in this house that Fricis and Paulīna Bārda were married and spent loving moments from 1915 to 1919.

In 1968, after a long period of neglect and forced oblivion, a memorial room to Fricis Bārda was opened in "Dārziņi," where Paulīna Bārda spent her summers. Today, this house houses an exhibition dedicated to Fricis and Paulīna Bārda.

In 1992, a monument to Fricis Bārda was erected between the poet’s father’s house and the house Fricis Bārda built. The author of the monument is sculptor Vilnis Titāns. Two broken stone heart pieces symbolize two inseparable elements of the poet’s life – his love for his native "Rumbiņi" and the romantic poet with a birch soul, his creativity, and connection to the world.
