Association boat
A fishing boat donated to the town by fisherman Visvaldis Šrenks in November 2006 is on display at 10 Rīgas Street, Salacgrīva.
European Union regulations prevent our fishermen from developing their fishing industry. On the contrary, it has to be reduced. Visvaldis had a choice: give the boat to the city for non-profit use outside the fishery or give it to be scrapped. Visvaldis chose the first option.
What is the significance of this place?
In 1922, the building at 10 Rīga street became the town hall and then the town board house.
In 1924, the Post and Communications Department also made a request to the Central Land Planning Commission to assign the premises to the Post Office. However, the State Land Department preferred the town board, and so this place in Salacgrīva became the seat of the town executive for 73 years. At a meeting held in this building on 18 December 1926, the historic decision to rename the town of Salacgrīva as a city was adopted by 9 votes to 2.
Only on 10 November 1995, the City Council moved to the former Salacgrīva ZKF kindergarten, 9 Smilšu street. In December of the same year, a fire broke out and destroyed the old historic wooden building.
